Historical Walking Tour

TIME | Duration: 2 to 3 hours
This tour offers insights into the early pioneers, the architecture, and the history of the town as an early outpost of the Cape Colony. Visit historical Church Street with its many national monument buildings, including the oldest functioning church in its original form in the country, the Earthquake Museum (documenting the devastating 1969 quake that destroyed much of the town and the rebuild that followed), and then a traditional Cape Dutch Pioneer Cottage that provides a view of domestic life 200 years ago.

Travel to the Oudekloof Winery and embark on a scenic tractor-drawn trailer ride to the top of a hill, offering commanding views of the valley. Enjoy drinks and snacks while watching the sun set over another magical day! Return down the hill after sunset.

Pass through the spectacular Bain’s Kloof Mountain Pass en-route to the renowned winelands towns of Paarl, Stellenbosch and Franschhoek for a day of wine, craft beer, chocolate and cheese tastings at beautiful and historical wineries in spectacular settings. There will also be a visit to the L’Ormarins Motor Museum, housing one of the world’s largest and most valuable private collections of collectable automobiles. A sumptuous picnic lunch will be provided on this tour.

Visit the Mother City for a day of insights into the fascinating history and culture of the region. Sights will include the Cape Castle (the original Dutch Fort and the country’s oldest building), the District Six Museum, the Gold Museum, the noon-day gun (a big naval canon that fire’s at noon every day from Signal Hill), The Company’s Garden, St George’s Cathedral, the Slave Quarters, The Presidential Home ‘Tuinhuis’ and the Houses of Parliament, De Waterkant and Bo Kaap with its cobbled streets and colourful houses. Weather permitting, take a rotating cable car to the top of Table Mountain (one of the 7 Natural World Wonders) for breathtaking panoramic views of the city. A sumptuous picnic breakfast and lunch will be provided on this tour.

Visit the Peninsula south of the Mother City for a day of natural scenic splendour. Sights will include the Rhode’s Memorial, Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens on the slopes of Table Mountain (rated among the top 10 gardens in the world), the Kalk Bay small-boat harbour to see colourful fishing boats and perhaps fisherman bringing in their catch for the day, the Boulder’s Beach Penguin Colony, Cape Point at the most south-western point on the African continent, and the spectacular Chapman’s Peak drive. A sumptuous picnic breakfast and lunch will be provided on this tour.
